Summar Financial wants to share with you the sponsorship of Nicolas Cardona in his 6th competition in the Rally Dakar. Nicolas is the only Venezuelan motorcycle pilot that has participated in 6 Rally Dakar competitions winning his category of Marathon in 2014. The Rally Dakar requires competitors to ride their motorcycles in severe terrains for 15 days. They ride for 300 kilometers each day, starting at 4 am in the morning and finishing well past midnight. This competition lasts 15 days with only a single resting day and it is considered one of the hardest competitions in the planet. Riders go from sea level to over 6,000 meters in altitude. They ride by themselves only accompanied by a GPS.

Nicolas is competing on a category called Marathon which requires all competitors to use the same motorcycle with same suspension and motor for the whole race. The only things that can be altered on the motorcycles are the tires. Nicolas chose a KTM 450 Rally which was purchased directly from KTM hungary specially designed for the rally.

Motocross and Enduro Pilot, born on August 17th of 1985 in the city of Barquisimeto, Venezuela. At his 31 years he has a vast experience in the different categories of motocross competitions.

These are some of his greatest achievements:

  • 4th Best Latin-American in Dakar Rally 2016.
  • 1st place in Marathon category in Dakar Rally 2014.
  • 2nd place in Rally of the Pharaohs 2014.
  • Gold Medal in México Enduro World Championship.
  • 1st place in Enduro Latin-American Championship.

The Dakar Rally is an annual rally raid organized by the Amaury Sports Organization. Most events since the inception in 1978 were from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal, but due to security threats in Mauritania, which led to the cancellation of the 2008 rally, races since 2009 have been held in South America.

The four major competitive groups in the Dakar are motorcycles, quads, cars class, (which range from buggies to small SUVs) and the trucks class. Many vehicles manufacturers exploit the harsh environment the rally offers as a testing ground and consequently to demonstrate the durability of their vehicles, although most vehicles are heavily modified or purpose built.

Motorbikes

Riders are divided into two groups, “Elite” (Group 1) and Non-Elite (Group 2), with the latter subdivided into two further groups – the “Super Production” (Group 2.1) and “Marathon” (Group 2.2) classes. “Marathon” competitors are not permitted to change such key components as the engine (including the engine case, cylinders and cylinder heads), the frame, the forks or swinging arm, whereas those in the “Super Production” and “Elite” classes may replace these components.
